Q: What is the Gospel?
A: The gospel is the good news of salvation that Jesus preached on Earth. In Matthew 4:23, “the gospel” and “the good news” are used interchangeably.
“Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.”
Matthew 4:23
“This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant [minister, NASB].”
Colossians 1:23
In writing to the Corinthian church, Paul describes himself as a minister of a New Covenant.
“He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
2 Corinthians 3:6
The gospel is the New Covenant. Through it, we partake in the New Covenant Passover, becoming one body in Jesus, receiving eternal life, and becoming heirs of God. This is the good news—the gospel—of the kingdom that Jesus proclaimed.
