[et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text”]About 20 volunteers from the World Mission Society Church of God connected with Jersey Cares to install a playground. They did this in an effort to boost the moral of children affected by Hurricane Sandy in the town of Manasquan. Furthermore, the NY/NJ Superbowl Host Committee sponsored the project. They chose Manasquan Elementary School as the beneficiary following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. The storm caused more than 100 families in the town of Manasquan to lose their homes. So, in order to give comfort to the children in the community, members from the Church of God spent Martin Luther King Jr. Day constructing playgrounds for them.
Members from the Church of God in North Brunswick traveled early in the morning to begin the assembly of the playground. Though it was early, the members were eager to begin working. With the guidance of Jersey Cares Director of Corporate Services, Heather O’Loughlin, the volunteers went straight to it.
At about 9 a.m., Church of God volunteers began assembling three separate playground sets. The playground sets included a musical game structure, a gadget structure, and a toss and score game. Church of God volunteers put their muscles to work, digging holes and mixing cement for the installment of the playground attractions. The volunteers worked in unity with light hearts and smiles, despite it being a tough job. Nevertheless, they knew that their volunteer service would provide a comforting environment to the children of Manasquan Elementary School.
“The unity was amazing, the give back from the community was amazing, and everyone here was such a great worker, I’d take them on any site I ever work again.” said John DonVito, a volunteer leader from Jersey Cares. “Everyone worked so great together; you didn’t have to ask anyone twice to help.”
As a result of their efforts, the children of Manasquan Elementary School received a brand new playground to enjoy. The Church of God volunteers were glad to bring such happiness to the children of Manasquan.
