On November 17, 2024, ASEZ university students worked together to clean the Elizabeth River Trail in New Jersey. The cleanup focused on removing trash and plastic that could pollute the river and harm local wildlife. Some of the ASEZ students were from Elizabeth, NJ, which made it even more meaningful as they helped clean up their own neighborhood. The event was also part of ASEZ’s ZERO Plastic 2040 campaign, an awareness-raising initiative that encourages individuals to commit to eliminating plastic waste through small daily actions. The goal of this campaign is to reduce plastic pollution and move toward a future free from plastic waste.

The ZERO Plastic 2040 Campain
The main goal of the event was to engage the community in environmental protection. Students not only helped clean the area but also learned the value of working together for a common cause. The cleanup was a part of the ASEZ Zero Plastic 2040 campaign. This campaign focuses on reducing plastic waste and protecting the environment. By taking on this challenge in their local community, the students contributed to the global movement towards a plastic-free future.
The event provided an opportunity for students to build relationships with local government officials. Mayor J. Christian Bollwage and Councilman at Large Manny Grova Jr. were present, showing their support for the students’ efforts. Rosa Paulino, the SUPERA Spanish Speaking Program Director and Good Samaritan Advisor, also attended and spoke to the students about the importance of their work.
The event was a success, with both the local government and residents expressing their appreciation. “Keep on doing what you’re doing little by little. Doing just a little means a lot. It educates and motivates those around you,” said Rosa Paulino. “I appreciate all the work you’re doing,” Councilman Grova added.
The students’ hard work helped improve the community, and the collaboration with local officials has opened the door for future partnerships. This initiative also inspired others to join the ASEZ Zero Plastic campaign, reinforcing that even small daily actions can lead to a significant impact on environmental preservation.
