Neighborhood Snow Cleanup

Residents in the town of Bogota, NJ, breathed a sigh of relief when they were finally able to step outside, thanks to the help of the members from the World Mission Society Church of God. On Wednesday, March 15, 2017, volunteers from the Church of God helped clean porches, cars and driveways of 14 homes belonging to senior citizens after winter storm Stella covered the area in several inches of snow.

A total of 12 members from the Church of God went out with shovels to un-bury residents trapped in their homes. As they went house to house, homeowners felt overwhelmed with gratitude and appreciation. After successfully removing snow from the properties, volunteers presented residents with bags of tea and encouraged to keep warm.

The volunteers worked from early morning into the evening, giving their all to help those who weren’t in the best position to shovel the immense amount of snow that had accumulated.

One of the neighbors sent the church a letter expressing her thanks, “I want to say thank you to all your members for the great job they did in cleaning my car off after this snowstorm and salting my driveway. You have been most helpful. As a senior, there are times when help is needed and it is very comforting to know it is not far away.”

Volunteers delighted at carrying out the work; they considered it an opportunity to put the teachings of Christ into practice: love your neighbor as yourself. With this teaching in mind, the Church of God is continuously finding new ways to help the community and make the world a better and more loving place to live.
